The Sanctuary Experience - Winter

WINTER MEANS SOMETHING DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE ON PLANET EARTH.

FOR SOME…IT MEANS HUNKERING DOWN AND WAITING FOR WARMER DAYS.

FOR OTHERS…SNOW, DARKNESS, AND FRIGID TEMPERATURES CAN BE ENJOYABLE THINGS.

ESPECIALLY WHEN ACTIVITIES AND ACCOMMODATIONS ARE DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY TO ENHANCE THESE OFTEN SHUNNED ELEMENTS OF NATURE.

THE GLAMPING DESTINATIONS FEATURED IN THIS ARTICLE, SET AMIDST THE COLD CLIMATES OF THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE, OFFER UP THE CHANCE TO EMBRACE THE COLD WINTER…AND MAYBE EVEN CELEBRATE IT.

SO PUT ANOTHER LOG ON THAT FIRE, BREW YOUR FAVORITE COCOA, WRAP THAT COZY BLANKET AROUND YOU, AND PREPARE TO LEARN ABOUT HOW YOU CAN EXPERIENCE THE COLD OF WINTER IN AN ENTIRELY NEW WAY.

Are you all feeling cozy and comfy?

Wonderful!

Winter isn’t all that bad - right? Well…that may depend on two things: your location and your perspective.

For 67% of the global population, winter does not mean frigid temperatures, shoveling, dressing in layers, and altogether avoiding going outside. Most of the folks on planet Earth continue to enjoy the sun and a warm breeze during the months of December, January and February.

But for the 33% of us that live in the Continental Weather Climate Region, one’s perspective can make the difference between feeling good, bad, or downright depressed.

And for 13% of the world’s population, winter is a permanent thing. For these folks that have chosen to live in the Arctic and Polar Regions, finding a way to embrace it can make all the difference between a warm smile…and a frozen frown.

Examples of positive perspectives during winter are offered by Siberian Travel Guides Natalia Durbanova and Maksim Fomenko through their service SIBWAYTOUR. There’s even a glamping aspect on certain expeditions, along with the chance to learn about a culture that often gets painted with a harsh brush.

But let’s be honest…in some places, it’s just too damn cold for humans to inhabit. The Eastern Antarctic Plateau holds the record for the coldest place on earth, with an estimated temperature of -94°C. Of course, this is a calculated measurement because…well…who in the heck is going to stand out there with a thermometer??

There have been humans brave enough to trek through the Antarctic, and even braver folks who live in this region part time in research stations.

But for many of us, visiting cold weather regions may take a bit of nudging.

The following Glamptuarys have done a wonderful job of designing glamping structures, and experiences, that will have you making snow angels and thanking Old Man Winter for creating a playground of snow and ice.

From dog sledding, to snowmobiling, to nordic skiing, to ice fishing, to seeing The Northern Lights while riding in a sleigh pulled by reindeer - the Glamptuarys listed below thrive during the coldest of temperatures.
