Our stay at Black Tree Resort was the quintessential glamping experience; It was the perfect blend of nature, seclusion, service, comfort, and luxury.

You can sense the attention to detail immediately as you arrive at the well-designed entrance to the resort – where you’ll be greeted by one of the permanent equine residents.

Our check-in was seamless and our bags were loaded onto a golf cart for transport to our safari tent. We hopped in our own golf cart and trailed behind our guide as we drove deep into the 80-acre resort.

Our tent was situated near the back of the resort and we were immediately impressed with the spacing of the glampsites we passed by. Every site we passed felt private with a unique landscape and layout.

Our site felt the same and came complete with a propane fueled fire-pit for ease in lighting, hand-crafted Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, and an outdoor storage locker. There was also a spacious canopy-covered deck right outside our entrance.

We were thoroughly impressed with the A-frame canopy covering our safari tent which is one of the many features that were designed and built by Black Tree’s owner/operator, Nabil Saweeres. In fact, every detail from the fire-pit to the bedframe was designed and built by Nabil and his staff.

The interior was spacious and included 2 queen beds with luxury linens and pillows, a wood-burning stove, a hand-crafted love seat and table, and a rolling table for extra space to set our gear on.

The personal touches that went into our glamp-site on the interior and exterior put smiles on our faces, including our two pups Kazan and Wally.

We were assigned a private bathroom that came complete with toiletries and luxury towels. Having our own bathroom and shower added a layer of privacy that was very much appreciated.

Getting to the bathroom from our glampsite did require a cart ride as all the bathrooms are located near the entrance of the resort. This is potentially the only thing that was not “ideal” during our stay at Black Tree Resort. Yes – I did make the air-quote motion in my mind as I was typing the word ideal. I’ll gladly accept bathrooms that aren’t directly connected to my tent if I am provided a clean, well-designed private bathroom on the property. I will add that for convenience, there are luxury restroom trailers placed throughout the resort.

After we got settled, we played a friendly game of Scrabble that was provided at check-in. Black Tree has a nice selection of games that are free to check out and a small store stocked full of branded goodies and snack items sourced from local artisans for purchase.

As we finished up our game, a cart pulled up with the first of our meals that we had pre-ordered before arriving. We were even able to pre-schedule our delivery time for each meal to suit our schedule. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared on-site using Colorado-sourced ingredients and we were blown away by the quality. Black Tree provided real plates and silverware to use and took care of everything after we finished each meal.

Our meals included pancakes, eggs, and bacon every morning along with fresh coffee and juice for breakfast, sandwiches made-to-order with pasta salad and fresh fruit for lunch, and for dinners we enjoyed BBQ ribs and 4-cheese mac with a fresh salad, and an Asian sauteed king salmon with fried rice and fresh vegetables. For dessert we were given marshmallows, chocolates, and graham crackers for s’mores.

Everything was delicious and having meals taken care of freed up so much time to explore Black Tree and the surrounding area.

For on-site activities, Black Tree operates a small horse ranch conveniently located across the road from the main resort property. Guided mountain rides can be scheduled ahead of your arrival and all riding styles are welcomed. We didn’t ride on this visit but that didn’t stop us from horsing around at the ranch. Black Tree provided treats for the horses and they gladly accepted.

We also ventured off-site to Eleven Mile Canyon State Park and splashed around in the river after a beautiful hike through the canyon and around the reservoir.

There are plenty of off-site activities that you can, and should, schedule ahead of time if you are looking for something not offered at the resort. If you do a little google searching, you’ll find the following relatively close to Black Tree:

  • ATV tours

  • Boating (plus water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, etc.)

  • Fishing

  • Hiking

  • Historic mining town tours

  • Hot springs

  • Horseback riding

  • Kayaking

  • Mountain biking

  • Sailing

  • Trail running

  • Whitewater rafting

  • Windsurfing

  • Zip lining

If you are thinking about off-site activities, I’d advise you plan for a longer stay. Our 3-day stay felt full with just the right mix of activities, R N’ R by the fire, and snuggle time in our tent.

Black Tree Resort is perfect if you’re looking for a combination of luxury, nature, privacy and 5-star service. We want to thank the Black Tree Resort staff for their professionalism and attention to detail.
